[5D4N] Cambodia - Siem Reap & Phnom Penh travel

Never in my life I thought that I would have the opportunity to travel to Cambodia.
Lucky enough, my company organized a trip to Cambodia, since all of them haven't been there before.. so I thought its now or never to see and experience Cambodia.

*note that it is a company trip and we arranged a ground tour, so our itinerary consist mainly on very touristy places.

Day 1
First stop was Silk farm, Artisan Angkor & Gem shopping

Dinner at Amazon Angkor
Amazon Angkor is a huge dinning place which offers buffet and Aspara Dance show. Its a very touristy dinning place where most tour agent would bring their tourist to. While I was there, there were many tourist from western countries, Hong Kong, China and Korea that came to dine there.
Food wise was average, not so much of variety and the rate they replenish it is quite slow.

Day 2
Day 2 is probably the most exciting and adventurous day among my itinerary in Cambodia.
Our First stop is Bayon Temple or as we called it the temple with many faces.
The entrance of Bayon Temple, we were greeted by stone statues on both side of the bridge and a gate with the famous face stupa on top of it.

Bayon Temple can get reallly crowded if you go during peak seasons/peak hour. The top of Bayon temple is literally crowded that is hard not to get photobombed by other tourist around you.

Next up, Ta Prohm.
This is the famous temple where Angelina Jolie shot the movie Tomb Raider.
The temple here is famous for it's tree growing on top of the temple instead from the ground.

After Ta Prohm, we head over to Angkor Miracle for a western style lunch.
This is by far the best meal we had during our stay in Siem Reap. We had the choice of beef, pork, chicken or fish as our main. The best I'd recommend would be the beef steak.

After lunch, we head off to Angkor Wat to catch the sunset.

The next few shots are taken during sunset. Notice how the sunset changes the color of Angkor Wat?

After Angkor Wat, we went for dinner and Rosana Broadway.
Rosana Broadway is a show where guys dressed up as girls and sing on stage to different songs representing a particular country. Basically an 'AQUA' show, as we Malaysians like to call it.
No shots on it as I was dead tired and the lighting was poor.

 Day 3
Our 3rd day was taken up by travelling via bus en route to Phnom Penh.
The journey wasn't too bad. It was like travelling from KL to Singapore via coach, and it took around 5 hours to reach Phnom Penh depending on traffic situations.
It was the best time for us to catch up on sleep and witness the village life and scenery through the coach window along the way.
But before our en route to Phnom Penh, we stopped by at Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in southeast asia.
There is a floating village by Tonle sap, and you may notice the villagers there are living in poor condition. Kids near the pier may beg aggressively so do be cautious on giving out stuff to them.

Day 4
As we reach Phnom Penh, we could tell that the vibe between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap is totally different. Even though its a small city, the numbers of tall buildings and vehicle are much more as compared to Siem Reap.
Day 4 was mainly touring around the city including the Royal palace, Wat Phnom, monuments, S21 & Nagaworld (the famous casino in Phnom Penh). *I chicken out at S21 because I didn't want to get those chilling bad vibes around me.

 Day 5

Our last day was free & easy. So we went to check out Russian Market & Aeon.
The Russian market is huge and you can definitely get lost in there if you don't know your bearings.
They sell tons of stuff from souvenirs like silk pouch to household stuff like mops, paints and even motorbike spare parts. They even have a wet market there for locals to do their grocery shopping.

Aeon is basically a shopping mall. Well, I'd say bigger than our own Malaysia Aeon.. They even have a skating ring inside ! SAY WHAT?! But sadly enough.. we didn't shop alot there because of the currency exchange.

So that sums up my trip to Cambodia.
Would I go back ?
YES, probably once..but I'd go back Siem Reap because I've yet to discover some of their temples. Phnom Penh doesn't have much to offer, even for its shopping. Due to the currency that they use (USD), I'd rather go back Thailand and do shopping since most of the souvenirs are almost the same as what you can find in Thailand, plus your paying in BAHT which is much more cheaper compare to USD. So yeah, been to Phnom Penh once is good enough.

Hotel stayed:
Siem Reap - Starry Angkor Hotel
Phnom Penh -  Green Palace Hotel

Stay tune to more travel diaries !
till then,
