Every year my dad's former company will hold their annual company trip and we were invited most of the time. Previously, I followed them to Beijing and it was my first time going overseas and I can say it was awesome (it was the beginning of winter that's why..).
This time we headed to Indonesia where we cover the city Medan, Lake Toba and also Berastagi.
Day 1 : Medan -> Berastagi
We fly using Firefly from Subang Airport to Kuala Namu International Airport.
After we touch down, we had lunch at a local restaurant that serves chinese food.
(Our guide brought us to eat chinese style food for all our meals because its within the company's budget and 'safer')
And off to Berastagi for our 1st Night.
Berastagi is located at a mountainous area, it's something like Malaysia's Cameron Highland. Cool weather, village with vegetables and fruit farm, and winding narrow roads. It takes around less than 2 hours to go to Berastagi from Medan depending on the traffic situation.
Our first stop is a local fruit market at Berastagi.
Checked into Mikie Hotel.
I would rate this hotel a 8/10
Their room's are neat and nice. Hot shower provided. Facilities like swimming pool, arcade, karaoke, lounge and not to mention..they have snooker and pool table !! which kept me entertained for that night !
Their breakfast buffet was by far the best among the 2 other hotels that I've stayed there. They have salad, porridge, noodles, fried rice, cereal, bread/toast, eggs by request and others.
The only downside of this hotel is their WiFi service. It is so bad that I couldn't even log into it. But it was all due to the cloudy rainy weather up there that interrupt the service. But overall, Mikie hotel was nice ! (sorry didn't snap pictures there)
Day 2: Berastagi -> Lake Toba
Packed our luggage and head off to Lake Toba. But before that, we went to Sipiso piso waterfall as it was one of the popular tourist spot. From there we could see one end of Lake Toba.

After that, we spend about an hour plus journey to our hotel, Atsari Hotel.
This hotel, I would rate a 6/10
Hotel room was good, wide selection of movie channels on the TV. WiFi was good too, except that we had to go to the lobby to use it. Lobby is 'opened air' and has lots of mosquitoes.
Their Breakfast Buffet.. sad to say.. sucks according to my preference. Their food were cold and I could see flies flying around. But thank goodness I didn't get diarrhea.
After checking in, we cruise around Lake Toba and went to 2 village to learn about their culture.
Day 3 : Lake Toba -> Medan
The third day wasn't as excited as the second day cause we spend most of the time traveling by bus.
Took us around 4 hour to get to Medan with a few stops in between. One of the stops were buying local snacks (Ting Ting, Teng Teng etc..) and the rest were toilet stops.
By the time we arrived at Medan it was lunch time, so we ate lunch and went shopping at a Factory Outlet. Sadly I didn buy anything cause Polo Ralph Lauren doesn't have my size. Was so disappointed that I couldn't fit in S size due to the cutting. Later on we went to the Maimun Palace.
Later on, we went to Sun Plaza for shopping. But we didn't really shop, just there to kill time and hang around at their Starbucks.
Checked into Emerald Hotel later in the evening.
I'll rate it a 7/10.
Their rooms are nice too except that they have very few movie channels on the TV. Lobby are nicely set up. Facilities include swimming pool, gym, lounge. So far these are the facilities that I was able to find. But one thing I love about this hotel is that I could connect to the WiFi in my room ! No need to go all the way down to the lobby just for the sake of WiFi. ha !
Their breakfast buffet is average. I would say worst than Mikie but at least better than Atsari.
They do have plenty of variety but sadly some food were cold and some was not replenished.
Day 4 -> Medan to Subang
The fourth day is the end of my Indonesia trip.
Headed straight to the airport right after breakfast.
And.. Home Sweet Home
PS: We were lucky to get back to Malaysia in time before Mount Sinabung volcano erupt. Apparently the fruit market that we went at Berastagi were all covered in ashes. Thank god we made it back in time.
till then,
Rachellwy.
